Rugs and carpets are basic necessities in the daily life of Tibetans, and the high-quality weaving and colorful, stylized patterns have nearly universal appeal. Tibetan rugs are typically made to use as mats to sit on or for meditation, for door and window covers, for horse saddles, and for bedcovers and pillar wrapping. Traditional carpet designs generally reflect Tibetan culture and religion and Chinese motifs, including dragons, are also dominant as design elements in Tibetan carpets.
