Design inspired by 7th to 9th Century Celtic illuminated scrolls. Evangelists symbols all consist of Celtic decoration, including Cloisonne-like partitions and colours, spirals, dots and Triskele patterns. These patterns are symbolic and radiate from the cross symbol in the centre, which together with the interlace, (including animal interlace), are thought to ward off the trap evil. The strong bright colours reinforced the power of protection of the designs.
